Tyaughton Lake Lillooet Wildfire grows to 8,000 hectares
The Tyaughton Lake, near Lillooet British Columbia, wildfire has grown to 8,000 hectares, which is larger than was originally thought, as firefighters last estimated the blaze to have consumed about 6,5000 hectares of British Columbia forest.
230 firefighters are battling the fire, with 15 helicopters and 50 pieces of equipment but they cannot get it under control.
Mary Ann Leach, from the Lillooet Fire Information Office said that fire guards have been set up on the southeast part of the blaze that is designed to protect the homes there.
"The tough area that we're going to be challenged on is the area around Liza Lake," Leach said. "It's going to be harder to construct fire guards because of the steep terrain in there."
Firefighters have also been setting up sprinkler systems near homes in Liza, Marshall and Carol Lakes, as well as Tyaughton Lake and Gun Creek. No homes have been lost to the fire at this point.
However, evacuation orders remain for Marshall Lake, Liza Lake, Carole Lake, Mud Creek, Tyaughton Lake, Gun Creek, Gold Bridge and Bralorne.
