The Syiah Kuala University(Unsyiah) in Banda Aceh, is developing a tsunami research and disaster mitigation center in association with Kobe University, Japan, and the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency.

"The tsunami research and disaster mitigation center is being developed in view of the importance of familiarizing the people with efforts of mitigating natural disasters, including tsunamis," spokesman for the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency Juanda Djamal said in Banda Aceh on Sunday.

In view of the establishment of the tsunami study center, a four-day international workshop and expo on disaster risk reduction is held at Unsyiah starting on December 8, 2007.

"The workshop is designed to familiarize the public with ways and means to save oneself during a disaster," he added.
