Not that I am a big tree hugger, it is just that Joe average citizens who cut down a tree from their own property to get a better view of our majestic mountains, seaport and skylines would be set upon by government and park boards who would levy big time fines amounting 20 to 50 thousand dollars for doing the same thing. Yet when it comes to developers who wish the trees to go away, it seems bureaucrats readily lay on their backs exposing their pale pink bellies of compliance. Not to mention people who paid big bucks for a view, only to have a developer erect a big honking Skyscraper in front of their home.

Visitors at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver expressed different views about the removal of 70 trees by park board crews on Thursday morning.
The Vancouver Park Board approved a plan earlier this month to restore the views of the downtown core and North Shore mountains by chopping down the trees.
Queen Elizabeth Park is the second-most-visited park and the highest point in the city at 153 metres above sea level.
Three logging crews and three felling crews were deployed shortly after 7 a.m. to clear the trees, said Alex Downne, a supervisor at the park.
"Most of the trees are down. Of course, there's quite a bit of cleanup to do. It'll probably take another week," he said.
The answer to why they can do it and you can't was the object of speculation by early 80's philosopher and musicologist Joseph Saddler. His most famous quote on the subject was
