Parts of Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County are being evacuated. The brush fire is fueled by a 50-mph gust wind. The fire is in Lompoc area, moving toward the small community of Vandenberg Village.

The fire on the Air Force Base burned about 450 acres.

Fire fighters are working to contain the wildfire. Currently 80% has been contained.

Gusty, 50-mph wind gusts have been pushing the fire in a southwesterly direction, and power outages have been reported in the area, he said. About 20 engines, 10 air tankers and five helicopters are attacking the fire.

“We’re trying to hold it at Pine Canyon,” Sadecki said, adding that no homes are threatened at this time.

Vandenberg AFB officials evacuated all nonessential personnel and approximately 96 buildings. The Lompoc and Santa Maria Gates are currently closed.
