John Coleman, founder of the Weather Channel, and now Chief Meteorologist at KUSI, an independently owned San Diego TV outlet, says global warming is a big scam which has always been about the money. What began initially in the 1950's as a notion to secure ever larger amounts of government research grants has now become an initiative intended to increase government tax revenues based on the carbon footprints of both individuals and corporations, he says.
Evidently Coleman's got a lot of 'juice,' as they say. Now read what he has to say about global warming in a lead story at KUSI's home page, datelined today.
The Amazing Story Behind The Global Warming Scam
The key players are now all in place in Washington and in state governments across America to officially label carbon dioxide as a pollutant and enact laws that tax we citizens for our carbon footprints. Only two details stand in the way, the faltering economic times and a dramatic turn toward a colder climate. The last two bitter winters have lead to a rise in public awareness that CO2 is not a pollutant and is not a significant greenhouse gas that is triggering runaway global warming.
How did we ever get to this point where bad science is driving big government we have to struggle so to stop it?
The story begins with an Oceanographer named Roger Revelle. He served with the Navy in World War II. After the war he became the Director of the Scripps Oceanographic Institute in La Jolla in San Diego, California. Revelle saw the opportunity to obtain major funding from the Navy for doing measurements and research on the ocean around the Pacific Atolls where the US military was conducting atomic bomb tests. He greatly expanded the Institute’s areas of interest and among others hired Hans Suess, a noted Chemist from the University of Chicago, who was very interested in the traces of carbon in the environment from the burning of fossil fuels. Revelle tagged on to Suess studies and co-authored a paper with him in 1957. The paper raises the possibility that the carbon dioxide might be creating a greenhouse effect and causing atmospheric warming. It seems to be a plea for funding for more studies. Funding, frankly, is where Revelle’s mind was most of the time.
Next Revelle hired a Geochemist named David Keeling to devise a way to measure the atmospheric content of Carbon dioxide. In 1960 Keeling published his first paper showing the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and linking the increase to the burning of fossil fuels.
These two research papers became the bedrock of the science of global warming, even though they offered no proof that carbon dioxide was in fact a greenhouse gas. In addition they failed to explain how this trace gas, only a tiny fraction of the atmosphere, could have any significant impact on temperatures.
John ColemanJohn Coleman is an American news weathercaster. He founded The Weather Channel (but is no longer affiliated with it), and presently works as an on-camera weathercaster at KUSI-TV in San Diego.
In fall of 2007 Coleman described the current concern over global warming "a fictional, manufactured crisis, and a total scam." His postings assessing the science behind global warming can be read at www.kusi.com. In 2008 he gave a speech of the same tone, before the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, blaming the "global warming scam" and environmentalist lobby, for rising gas and food prices. He also declared the scam "a threat to our economy and our civilization."
Coleman was born in 1934 in Alpine, Texas, the fifth child of a college professor and his math teacher wife, Claude and Hazel Coleman. He is married to Linda Coleman, and lives in a retirement community in the San Diego suburb of Rancho Bernardo.
About KUSI NEWS

I don't even know which side to be on now!

Amy, why not be on the side of common sense? Seventy percent of our wonderful planet is covered by water. Our great oceans soak up enormous amounts of solar radiation every twenty four hours. It is here that that our weather and climate are born. The sun goes through cycles, sometimes warmer, sometimes cooler and it has been doing this for billions of years. Ice core drilling on the Greenland ice sheet reveals that the temperature of the northern hemisphere countries have been through temperature shifts for tens of thousands of years. A little over 300 years ago Europe experienced what has been named "The Little Ice Age." There were less people in Europe at that time than now live in Canada. Our part of the planet, The USA and Canada was populated by tribal native people. Records show that thousands died in Europe from the cold and starvation. However, without the aid of man made CO2 a gradual warming began which allowed for an increase in the food supply; which led to the advancement in science and technology; which gave us the wonderful world we live in today. Thank God they had no "Guru Of Global Warming" like Al Gore back then. It is absolutely criminal that the Government of Canada and The USA have wasted billions on so called Global Warming research. Canada boast of having spent 4.5 billion on this and Nancy Pelosi demanded that the US stimulus bill have $400,000,000 for Global Warming Research. The Stimulus Legislation was supposed to help save the economy of the US.
Global Warming is not science, it is a rotten scam.

I didn't know there were sides still...

In stead of fixing the mess and working towards avoiding a disaster we are still arguing who is to blame," I really do not care why any the building will collapse, I care about getting people to safety and avoiding a total disaster." Maybe getting ready for the impact would be advised rather then wasting time any longer.

I agree that our great world, which somehow was created in a state of complete perfection, is now somewhat the worse for wear ...
I don't know if we face disaster, as you have expressed it, or not ...
All I am really sure of is that I and most other regular folks on a daily basis face an overwhelming barrage of information, much of it of a conflicting nature. It's a tremendous challange for us to try and put it all together sensibly.
IMHO, this situation is a tremendous opportunity for us all to learn how to get in touch with that certain something we all were born with, our intuition. Get all the information we can by reading and discussing with each other, from many different viewpoints, to collect as many data points as we can. Then it is up to each of us to connect the dots the way that makes the most sense to each of us ourselves. The picture we come up with, our own viewpoint, can then become something beneficial for all.
This is the great gift we have as human beings - the capability of constructive thought ! It's potential is practically unlimited.
Even a parrot can learn to repeat what some other 'expert' has trained it to say. It is such a shame, and such a waste as well, that we human beings so often behave in the same way.
It really doesn't have to always be this way !

Point taken. Well, I do have a parrot and he does talk, however he does also know what to say and when, he's vocabulary may be rather limited but he can communicate.
Life and science as well as nature is all about balance, and giving back as much as you take. Burning fossil fuels for energy is like taking out credit on VISA card that can not ever be paid back same goes for other pollution and over population as well, the difference here is we can not declare bankruptcy, this would mean death since that is not the way nature works.
There are other factors as well, such as natural cycles, Terrestrial as well as Cosmic that have to be taken into account, the problem today is that we are facing a little of every thing, the cycles seem to all merge and on top we put additional stress with our human impact and that is tipping the balance.
It is like sailing, the wind blows and the ocean currant run and we handle the boat, as long as we respect the way dynamics work we are fine, however as soon as we start shifting the weight to the wrong side we will flip the boat.
The content of most Human and our nature is to be self fish and let other pay the prise, the same goes for a bridge the collapsed, we know how to avoid it and how to measure the warning signs, but we ignore it and push it away, it will hold another decade we do not have the money now, or the inspector gets bribed and so on, the last 5 bridges that collapse in North America could all have been avoided. and plenty of warning was given. Well they killed people and then the blaming games start all over. Those Engineers are to blame, well they did warn you, did they not?
Even Science does not have all the anthers nor does it know with certitude what is and why to a 100% only 60 to 80% at best. However Science knows that we are in trouble and better fix what ever we can and clean up as well as change or we will not be able to survive this century and that is the point. So do we let the Bridge collapse or will we listen and fix it before it causes a disaster. From what I see every day and hear, we will most likely let the bridge collapse and then it will be to late.
Why some believe the best thing that can happen would be for Humanity to get wiped out by a virus before it is to late for life on earth. Sad though to see that it will have to be so.

Whether global warming is a scam or not, it's still not nice to pollute.

There may be some hope for common sense to yet prevail.
