Virginia Woolf classic 'To The Lighthouse', has been sold at auction for 80,000 pounds.

...I was planning to purchase virginia woolf beach...(lol)

Upton Towans beach, which overlooks the lighthouse on Godrevy Island some 10 miles northeast of Penzance, was sold to a private buyer in London who originally comes from the area.

Woolf's novel, which was published in 1927, was set in the Hebrides but is believed to have been inspired by the Cornish coastline where the writer spent many family holidays as a child.

I think a Beach has to remain Public land.

Paschen in the UK you can own a beach but not the sea, we are after all a "class system" society!

All joking side as much as I would like my very own sandy beach, somethings should remain public.

I remember a documentary on the magnate of Hong Kong, Li Ka Shing, and he was looking wistfully at the beach from his house till he finally stated, "I wanted all the land including the beach so I could make it all private but the government wouldn't let me buy it". I recall thinking what a sociopath he was for not even considering what the beach meant to other people but just lamenting the limits of his own greed. Even in a laissez faire economy like HK the beach is public property. What the hell has become of Britain?

Aw snap Thomps, I was planning to purchase it as well...
How cool would it be to tell all your mates you own a beach, that would be impressive!

Can I come and build a sand castle then?

Well said Hidflect, Paschen & Mudricky. Why should the beach go to a private buyer with all that history? Maybe that person will charge a fortune to Woolf fans to enter it or not at all. What did the National Trust do about it?
