International coverage on the Canada elections is almost absent. It's easy to understand why, we have a minority government led by the conservative party (think of conservatives as, more or less, the equivalent of the Bush republicans) and surveys show the conservative party winning again with almost no doubt, the only question remaining is will it be a minority or majority government. Not too exciting.

Stephen Harper, the leader of the conservatives is said to be worse than Bush, he's got the bad ideas but he's also not as dumb. He's actually a good strategist and plays politics very well. And he's also extremely dangerous! He's against the abortion right, funding culture, he's pro military, pro Alberta tar sands exploitation and most importantly, against environment.

Conservatives voters say that Harper does what he says he'll do and that's right to some extent but what he does is fundamentally bad! How good can that be? He has none of the ideas that will help solve the problems we face in our times. All other parties are acknowledging the climate and energy problems but the conservative party is also the only party of representing the right wing...all other parties dividing the left-wing votes.

If you're Canadian, go visit vote for environment which can help you select the best party to vote for to prevent the conservatives from winning. If we vote intelligently, we could have liberals in power which would be a very good thing. I actually saw the Stéphane Dion interview (leader of the Liberals) at Tout le monde en parle (TV show) tonight and I was very impressed, inspired even! He's an honest and intelligent guy. Too bad he doesn't get the love he deserves. I also love NDP and I hope they'll grow strong enough to be able to get to power someday.

Anyway, vote, get informed and vote! Democracy may give us a bad conservatives government but if we get involved, there's still a chance we can have better. I think people voting conservatives are simply not conscious about really important issues.

The date is October 14th! Canadians, go vote!
