The best way I know how to start a new year is with a hike in the woods. I did that today and was surprised to see how many other people had the same idea. Some had their children and a lot of people had their dogs, on a leash of course.

Winter is the time to observe things that become more visible without all of the green around, moss for instance. Winter moss and ferns stand out against the brown background.

Other accidents in nature appear to as shown in the posted pics, a tree limb that fell into the crotch of a double tree, for instance.

The location here is Potomac Overlook Park, Arlington Virginia.
