Wallow Fire Spreads in Eastern Arizona

The Wallow Fire has surpassed 184,000 acres, as more communities get evacuated. The Wallow Fire is over four times as large as it was when Alpine was evacuated. The wildfire is believed to have been started by an abandoned campfire.

Escudilla Mountain Estates, Bonita, Dog Patch, and the H-V Ranch have also been evacuated; Greer, AZ and Luna, NM are on a voluntary evacuation alert. High winds and the risk of lightning have kept firefighting aircraft grounded.

Firefighting crews are using controlled burns to create a buffer zone around Greer. Should the Wallow Fire get within six miles of Greer, then the town will be evacuated.
