whale tail

This photo was taken on a whale watching excursion north of Juneau, Ak. We also saw several whales in 2005 and even much closer but I was using a movie camera then and did not own the digital Nikon. One morning early northbound there were dozens of whales blowing near shore but much to far away to photograph. Another time I was fishing in Katchemak bay out of Homer in a boat and there were several whales in the bay in November. We were surprized and tried to get close enough for pictures but they dove for long periods and came up a great distance away.
