NP Rank:
Wild Bald Eagle Devours Crow
Activity is revving up into high gear at the eagles' nest by Jericho Park in Vancouver. One of the mates is always down in the nest incubating the eggs, with the other never too far away for too long. They will call to each other and switch at random intervals throughout the day, giving the one that was sitting still has a chance for a bit of a fly-about, stretch it's wings, and get some food.
Yesterday I happened to be at the park with my camera when this happened; I got some great footage of one of the eagles grabbing a quick lunch!
The egg(s) are expected to hatch in a couple of weeks . . . the adults will be even more active from then until the end of July with the ceaseless job of feeding the ever-hungry, growing eaglets.

Keta, great job for posting this! I have to admit though, I couldn't watch the video because I was scared what I was going to see. Is is horrible?

No it's not like horrible carnage! Just an eagle going to town on a dead crow. At one point the eagle stuffs a large bone down it's throat then has to pull it back out to get a more manageable mouthful.

Thanks Jordan! Right on. There will be many, many more updates in the coming months. Eagle baby season is just getting started!

Hello Keta,
Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us :) I hope that you'll keep an eye on the pair and let us know how they're progressing - and if you can get any footage of the chicks, that would be fantastic!
I also took a look at your web site- and spent much longer there than I'd thought I would. They are such a regal bird and they deserve our admiration and respect.

Thanks Swan! My website archives show a good demonstration of what I expect to capture this season. I will most certainly focus on any eaglets!
(unfortunately last year, my first with the digital video camera, the eagle babies died quite young. it was a great blow to the neighbourhood, and everyone is really pulling for 'our' eagles at Jericho this year).
