Wild Bald Eagle Mates

This month is very special at Spanish Banks in English Bay (Vancouver) because the low tide comes early in the morning. The light is great, there are very few people about, and the bald eagles frolic, fly, hunt and fish without interruption.

Walking out to the sand bar I was able to get a few shots, but once there the eagles were absent. It's always very tricky . . . the timing. Do I stand around in the prime fishing spot and wait, or do I move on and hope something will fly over my head? After considering for a while, and noticing the amounts of people coming out to walk their dogs, I decided to head back to shore.

I didn't get very far when I spotted a bald eagle sitting on the sand. I was able to get quite close and set up the camera in time to film it's mate come in (and almost land on the other's head, I mean it had to scurry out of the way!). They sat right beside each other for a bit, giving me time to sneak up closer for a perfect portrait.

The eagles have a wee chat, a jogger with her dog approach, and pass by quite close. Later the dog frightens the eagles, they fly off in perfect tandem.

Awesome video Keta!

I could watch those eagles all day.  Looking forward to any other footage you capture.

Ever read about the Golden Eagle?  They are also fascinating.  Golden Eagle's have been known to work as a team by the male bird driving or luring their prey,(like small goats) and then tossing them off cliffs.
