Wind turbine "freak accident"

Three more wind turbines exploded in gales that swept across Britain this week, luckily no one was killed.

The cost of the devastating weather that has swept the UK is shown by the state of these wind turbines - which couldn't stand the strength of the wind.

Huge turbine blades flew off three structures including one on the aptly-named Windmill Lane in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

The company which constructed the six 50ft turbines with blades five metres long in the Hepworth and Upper Cumberworth areas at a cost of £50,000 each has promised a full investigation.

The turbines are used by local farmers to generate electricity privately and then any excess sold back to the National Grid.

Concerned villagers in Hepworth, where the blade from one turbine was flung across a road, warned: 'Someone could have been killed'.

People objected to the plans when they first went in - not because it is a windmill but because it is so close to a busy road.

A large number of people who live near wind turbines have complained of ill health, head ache's and lack of sleep. Wild life has also suffered with bats and birds coming into contact with the blades. The value of properties have diminished drastically but the turbine companies deny there are any negative issues.
