Snow Storm 2009

Winter road conditions across the US are making Christmas travel dangerous, particularly in the Midwest. Heavy snow, freezing rain and fog are conspiring to cause traffic accidents and make holiday driving treacherous, so please be careful out there.
States with extremely poor highway conditions:

  • Nebraska
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Wisconsin
  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Michigan
  • Northeast Texas (WFAA weather warning)
  • Arkansas

Major Interstates most affected by winter weather:

  • I25 Wyoming, Colorado
  • I29 North Dakota, South Dakota
  • I35 Iowa, Oklahoma, Minnesota
  • I65 Chicago, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama
  • I70 Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland
  • I80 Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana
  • I90 Illinois, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin
  • I94 Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota

"It's going to be pretty bad," said Ben Moyer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Johnston.

Travel is expected to be hazardous in northwest and north-central Iowa with up to 14 inches of blowing snow expected tonight through Saturday that could create near-blizzard conditions.
... and that's just one instance.

Check out some tips on driving over snow and ice, as well as extremely wet roads.
