In many discussion fora and through comments on social bookmarkingsites, it was often suggested that genetically modified (GM) crops, said to yield a higher production, and to be more pest-resistant, couldmean the solution to world hunger.

I started to search aroundfor more info on genetically modified organism (GMO) or geneticallyengineered organism (GEO), and came across several posts referring to avideo called "The World According to Monsanto" by a French independentfilmmaker, Marie-Monique Robin.
The movie researches the credibilityof (or rather lack thereof) US based Monsanto, one of the biggestchemical companies in the world and the provider of the seed technologyfor 90 percent of the world’s genetically engineered (GE) crops. The World According to Monsanto: The Horror of Genetically Modified Crops.

Dubbed 'Frankenfood' in some circles, depending upon it's genetic make up, could be life threatening to many that consume some of these products, especially since there has long been a movement to market the stuff without labeling to let the consumer know they are purchasing genetically engineered food.

At last estimate, in the United States, it is believed food made from crops like soy beans and corn were manufactured and sold with more than 85% of the food on shelves containing genetically engineered grain.

I worry when it is known that engineers are seeking to increase the shelf life of certain produce by splicing genes from a variety of sea creatures to lower the threshhold at which produce freezes.

If and when someone, allergic to seafood, consumes a tomato, in a salad, that contained one of these 'seafood' genes, the results could be disasterous, maybe fatal.

It is still not required by law to label GMO food in the US, which is sort of worrisome. (If your tomatoes are blinking, though, you can be fairly certain that they're genetically modified)

Jordan, blinking or movement of any kind, would be a clue! What is most disturbing about all of this is it all comes at the the risk of the safety of consumers for profit. The scientists admit they don't know what effect genetically engineered food will have on the body over a long term period.

How long has it been since the practice of adding preservatives to foods began, not for the convenience of the consumer but to increase shelf life, again, for profit? No studies had been done to determine what may occur to human life or life in general after a long life of ingesting food preservatives.

Guess what? In the 1980s, it was noted that the human body, upon death, takes one hour longer to decompose due to the levels of preservatives found in the body. I wonder what effect those preservatives are having on the body while a person is alive.

It's a crap shoot as to what will happened after a lifetime of consuming genetically engineered food, often with most opinions depending upon whose paying the scientific expert to provide their conclusions.
