Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono urged the Jakarta city administration to increase its ability to respond to floods, to minimize the city becoming paralyzed by the floods.
"Today the president received a presentation on preview or evaluation of flood handling in the past three days and asked the relevant authorities to improve their ability to respond to floods," Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said in a press conference after a limited meeting with the president here on Tuesday.
Fauzi Bowo added that the head of state also called for a better handling of floods inundating the toll road leading to the Soekarno-Hatta airiport in Tangerang, so that road transport to the airport will become free of floods in the rainy season.
To anticipate the intensity of rain, the results of the meeting which took place from 14:00 till 16:30 local time indicated that PT. Jasa Marga as toll road operator and the Public Works Ministry will optimize the use of water pumps on the Sediyatmo toll road leading to the airport.
"Fifteen water pumps are now being used in the flooded areas, while another seven will be procured for flood handling," Bowo said. (*) END
