Environmental Crime
Tackling environmental crime costs this country in excess of £1.5BN per year. Every community suffers from the effects of environmental crime and Worthing is no exception.
New legislation, the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environmental Act 2005, has been introduced and is said to be the most significant change in environmental legislation since the Environmental Protection Act of 1990.
Worthing Borough Council, working through the Crime and Disorder Partnership (CDRP) and alongside a range of partners, intends to use these new powers to improve the well being of our community.
But we cannot do this alone. We need the help of all citizens with a vested interest in Worthing to help also. We need them to be the eyes and ears around the streets and report incidents and provide information so that we can catch the offenders.
We will use this information to compile clearance schedules to remove the graffiti from around the Borough, gather intelligence to identify hot spots for such things as fly tipping or dog fouling and target those areas for special attention which could mean the deployment of surveillance cameras.
Worthing working together can tackle environmental crime!
