PENSIONER Pat Bartram has been nominated for a top award for making a housing estate a better place to live.

The 70-year-old, of Jasmine Court, Kettering, is one of the first people to be put forward for this year's Northamptonshire Police Unsung Hero awards.

Mrs Bartram was nominated by Kettering councillor Paul Corazzo for her work with youngsters involved with drugs and crime on the Avondale ward in Kettering.

Cllr Corazzo said: "Pat has thrown herself into making the area a safer and nicer place to live.

"She works tirelessly to better the lives of her elderly neighbours in whatever way she can, sometimes travelling miles to help them with their weekly shopping."
