KIRYAT MALACHI, Israel -- They came from a medieval, agrarian society with no running water or electricity, traversing centuries overnight on flights from Ethiopia to Tel Aviv.

Twenty years later, the Ethiopian Jewish community in Israel is better versed in the ways of the West. But it still struggles with culture clashes, economic pressures and racism.
