Eureka! Tents Shelter Porters' Progress
Eureka! Tents Shelter Porters' ProgressPorters’ Progress is a Nepali-based non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the lives of trekking porters through programs that emphasize advocacy, education and empowerment. Porters’ Progress began in May 2000 with 12 jackets in a closet and has now grown into one of the most innovative and promising NGOs in the country. Porters’ Progress is the first organization in Nepal to directly tackle exploitation of mountain porters and does this by working collaboratively with mountain porters on every aspect of its operations. Eureka! sponsors Porters’ Progress with shelter for the mountain porters. Eureka! Condo tents are used for a variety of programs in the Everest region, including frequent use as portable classrooms to facilitate AIDS/HIV prevention programs, First Aid training and health clinics.
Ben Ayers, Founder of Porters’ Progress, writes from Nepal:
I have just returned from Lukla where we put up the first of the Condo tents to be used in coordination with our office there. I cannot speak highly enough of the tent, and thank Eureka! enough for your generous donation. What an incredible tent! We have already used the tent to host a number of activities with porters, including an HIV/AIDS prevention meeting and a Landmine Awareness meeting with child porters. The latter meeting had 17 child porters and 4 Porters' Progress staff attending. We all fit easily into the tent, and stayed dry throughout the heavy monsoon rains. There was even enough room to play a few trust and teamwork games…
…Again, thank you so much. The Condo is a truly phenomenal tent, and your generous donation has made a great contribution to our efforts to brighten the futures of some of the strongest and most dedicated workers on earth. We are deeply indebted to Eureka! for your support.
