Ray Tapajna challenges The World is Flat by Friedman in terms of his concepts, his statistics, his history and his denial of the main issues related to Globalism and Free Trade. He ignores the most essential factor.  Workers who are the core of any economy global or local have no voice in the process of Globalization and Free Trade and international organizations like the WTO operate outside any democratic process while controlling the flow of trade and wealth.  Friedman approaches the subject of Globalization from an elitist perspective with  a "Plantation Owner " mentality.

He also ignores the fact that Free Trade is not trade as historically defined and practiced.  Today, Free Trade is primarily about moving production from place to place based on the cheapest labor markets. Recently, factories have become even more portable with many that were moved from the USA to Mexico now moving to China. At the same time China is contracting workers from other countries at a cheaper wage than they even have in China.  In the end the main commodities of Free Trade in modern times are the workers. It almost resembles a new kind of slave trade based on the lowest common denominators down to wage slave and even child labor.

He also confuses cause and effect.  In his Y2k example - (one of this Flatteners that supposedly are periods in history that paved the way towards Globalization .) he ignores the fact that the cause of the Y2k crisis was Free Trade itself.  During the most massive dislocation of workers in history , over a million workers lost their jobs in the computer industry.  Just after President Clinton took office, just between IBM and AT&T/ NCR Computers, 300,000 workers were cut from these two companies alone.  Computers were almost like a plane flying on auto control without any system maintenance.  For more information, see http://tapsearch.com/flatworld

Tapsearch Com created the Handle with Care logo showing the world supported by the Creator with it  being removed in the Flat World of Globalization as presented by Thomas Friedman. Workers Dignity is ignored in the Flat World of Globalization and Free Trade.

The Clinton Years, The American Dream Reversed artwork is symbolic of the most massive dislocation of jobs in US history. It shows President Clintonplayin his sax while standing next to a soup can with the contents description resversed. The biggest lie in the land of "is" was not about Monica but it was about the economy. President Bush followed in Clinton's footsteps and passed Fast Track that made the Executive Branch the CEO of world trade.  See also http://www.graphicsforums.com/public/list.asp?id=1247  This art piece is in top five worldwide in terms of hits.
