Fakeaway fast-food bosses have been caught selling disguised doner kebabs filled with more types of meat than the customer probably bargained for.

The "con-er kebabs" contained cheap cuts of chicken or beef instead of lamb.

Now five store owners in Leicestershire are facing a grilling after the meat did not match its descriptions.

An investigation by county trading standards officers found one in four shops secretly sold "cheat kebabs" - doners made of lamb mixed with cheaper cuts of chicken or beef.

County Hall's team leader for food, Colin Hoskins, said: "This successful investigation gives a good picture of how some kebab shops are tarnishing the reputations of a good number of reputable ones.

"Kebabs are one of this nation's most popular meals, and some people are selling something which is not what it appears to be.

"These people have been warned and advised as to what they should be selling - but if they are caught again then we will consider prosecution.

"If they are taken to court, they will face a maximum fine of £5,000.
