There’s always been a sexual appeal to things both beautiful and horrific. A beautiful woman, a sexy man and beautiful couple all appeal to us on some base level. The same goes for horror. There’s an intrinsic mechanism in many people that will make them want sex after watching a scary movie. Often that’s caused by a need to feel safe and secure.

So, mixing scary stories with romance can be the ultimate in entertainment for many people. But, you need a quality story with believable characters that you can invest yourself in. The question is, where do you find that?

Well, some movies do the mix very well such as Underworld or Dracula. But, books are really the best for getting a full-bodied feeling of both. Anne Rice did a beautiful job of mixing the two as does #1 NY Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

Feehan’s DARK SERIES started out primarily as romance with a backdrop of vampire tales. But, over the last few years it has taken on an edgier feel to it, more horror and fantasy have been added. And, to push the envelope even more, her characters are very sensual and the sex scenes very hot.  We would not recommend the books to anyone under 16 years old. But, for those of us who are old enough to enjoy a healthy mix of sex and urban fantasy this series is like entertainment-candy. 

Some people have complained that the stories have gone over too much to the horror side as Feehan entered a dark realm with her series starting with the book Dark Demon.  Her newest release will be out August 28th , Dark Possession, and it has her dark hero literally caught between the world of the living and of the dead. And though he’s a vampire, his unwilling lifemate is a werewolf.  We’re not sure until the bitter end whether or not she’s going to help him or be another nail in the proverbial coffin.  The duality of their personalities and situations brings a level of excitement into the story that even Stephen King might enjoy. 

Yet, there’s never any doubt that this is a romantic tale.  It personifies the struggle of true love, how hard it is to attain and how close it comes to reflecting life and death. 

For those who love a good, dark, fantasy novel with a taste of the sensual, Dark Possession is the perfect choice in entertainment.
