Fibonacci Suite, thinkings over our sad Times
I'm impressed how some History rendez-vous did simply failed or were
missed ,partly or totally , like the 11th to 13 th era when the
mediterranean space offered a wide intellectual connection between the
known worlds of that time Western Christianity , Islam, Byzantine even Asian
Hindu and Chinese cultures...
Fibonacci , even he didn't invented all he used and developped is
one of these tiny and though important connections that without really
noticing it , made the world to go on differently , like at their
times Galileo , Copernicus , Keppler,Leuwenhoek and his microscope
...list would be too long...
it's a tribute to mankind showing sometimes it's easier to talk -
search wisdom than fight in mere fanatism under darkness doomsday
pledges , and that our times are maybe - alas - to be compared to these
ancient and conflictual ones of the 11/13th... even i don't forget that from 13th century
on , wrapped in its "certitudes" Islam stopped to move intellectually
forward , Byzance was raided and sacked by "crusaders" in 1204 , and
taken by Islam in 1453 ... the Western hemisphere engaged in bloody
battles of religion wars ,like the Seven years war in germany 17th that
killed a third of the entire population around 7 millions people over
20 , St Barthelemy day in August 1532 in France was achieved in total horror ...
fights for freedom until 18 th Enlightment were an ordeal... i remember
Vatican only recognized its "mistake " in the trial of Galileo Galilei
in 1633 in the 1990 !!!after centuries of in the name of heresy tortured and burned
bodies ...
Today Islam frightens the free lay world with its yelled Fatuahs but Bush reordered medieval torture ! like we hadn't enough of the
Adolph's of the 30ties and 40ties and his "final solution of the
minorities problems" !!!
No MORE Enlightment but sad crippling communities preaching for their
own sacred emptiness or vanity and gore praise of Death !
Where is our Humanity ! these creativity that made the man to be
chin 's up ?
Where is Mankind in Nuke proliferation , starving populations , shouting
demonstrators in the streets , fanatism , dogmatism...
USA 4 th of July pledge of independence , a thrown in the trashbin paper
(following Bush)...Liberty ,equality, brotherhood in Republican regime a laugh
in france ...the netherlands freedom rights bashed in assassinations and
reactions... Indonesian posters with western cut throats faces ... North Korea
digging more in nonsense with starved dying population but prepared nukes ...
Japan 's Abe on the wartracks of his grandfater ready to rearm japan , even with
nuclear weapons ? still at stake even Abe resigned ... Chinese big toad
ready to send its tongue to swallow the economic western cowardices...
... and Earth puking our constant misdoings ready to swallow us in dark
coming up waters ...
Samples of our failures !
yes Mathematics were right to insert Hindu -arabic Zero in new
calculations : really easier to count deaths by millions in past and
coming genocids ...
..........................................................here is a
Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibonacci and
here of a mathematics cyclodedia like Rees called its enclyclodia in
17th century...http://www.ilemaths.net/encyclopedie/Suite_de_Fibonacci.html
(sorry in french , you could reach english equivalent text in Wiki
...
Fibonacci suite shows the real mathematic complexity of a simple Daisy
is close to the complexity of Silicium crystals or whatever lives in
this galaxy !
Here some ideas extracted from the longer Wikipedia article
:
In the Liber Abaci, Fibonacci says the following introducing the
so-called "Modus Indorum" or the method of the Indians, today known as
Arabic numerals.
- After my father's appointment by his homeland as state official in the
customs house of Bugia for the Pisan merchants who thronged to it, he took
charge; and in view of its future usefulness and convenience, had me in my
boyhood come to him and there wanted me to devote myself to and be instructed in
the study of calculation for some days. - There, following my introduction, as a consequence of marvelous instruction
in the art, to the nine digits of the Hindus, the knowledge of the art very much
appealed to me before all others, and for it I realized that all its aspects
were studied in Egypt, Syria, Greece, Sicily, and Provence, with their varying
methods; and at these places thereafter, while on business. - I pursued my study in depth and learned the give-and-take of disputation.
But all this even, and the algorism, as well as the art of Pythagoras, I
considered as almost a mistake in respect to the method of the Hindus. (Modus
Indorum). Therefore, embracing more stringently that method of the Hindus, and
taking stricter pains in its study, while adding certain things from my own
understanding and inserting also certain things from the niceties of Euclid's
geometric art. I have striven to compose this book in its entirety as
understandably as I could, dividing it into fifteen chapters. - Almost everything which I have introduced I have displayed with exact proof,
in order that those further seeking this knowledge, with its pre-eminent method,
might be instructed, and further, in order that the Latin people might not be
discovered to be without it, as they have been up to now. If I have perchance
omitted anything more or less proper or necessary, I beg indulgence, since there
is no one who is blameless and utterly provident in all things.
- The nine Indian figures are:
- 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
- With these nine figures, and with the sign 0 ... any number may be written.
— (Ref. Sigler, 2003 and Grimm 1973 see references)
In this book he showed the practical importance of the new number system by
applying it to commercial bookkeeping, conversion of weights and measures,
the calculation of interests, money-changing, and numerous other applications.
The book was well received throughout educated Europe and had a profound impact
on European thought, although the use of decimal numerals did not become
widespread until the invention of printing almost three centuries later. (See,
for example, the 1482 Ptolemaeus map of the world printed by Lienhart Holle in Ulm.)
