Fiji's Military Commander [Voreqe Bainimarama] Declared Himself Boss

Suva, Fiji (AHN) - Fiji's military commander Voreqe Bainimarama declared he is the boss in the country, despite talks with the Vice-President aimed at averting a military coup in the tiny South Pacific nation.

According to Fijilive.com, Bainimarama said: "He (Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase) doesn't have the support of the security forces of this country then how can he say he is in control." On the other hand, Laisenia Qarase has reaffirmed that his Government is still in control and rejected claims that he was in hiding.

"All this time we were in perfect communication links with Government ministries and agencies. So in effect there was absolutely no problem in running the affairs of the Government using modern technology," Qarase said.
