Ouch!

I can hardly believe the video I just watched on LiveLeak, and I think if you can stomach it, you should see this. In the video, a man in San Pedro Cutud, a northern Philippine village is nailed to a cross as a part of a Lenten ritual to mark Good Friday. His feet and palms are attached to a wooden cross and then a 4-inch nail is hammered into his flesh. Although the ritual is opposed by religious leaders, it has persisted to become one of the country's most-anticipated attractions.

The Lenten ritual is opposed by religious leaders in the Philippines — Southeast Asia's largest predominantly Roman Catholic nation.

The practice of this ritual is a shame.   Jesus' suffering and death are substitutionary.  That is, in our place.   The Christian scriptures point us to Him.   We should never cause suffering to ourselves or others in the name of religion.
