This is a tragic story about the death of a young boy...but there are important child care lessons here as well.

A five-year-old child has died after falling in a pool at his grandmother's residence.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, a frantic woman called 911 to alert police that a child who could not swim was in the pool.

Officers and paramedics arrived at 1307 NW 15th Place and discovered that the pool was a dark green color, making it difficult to locate the child. Officer Nick Bruce dove into the pool and began searching for the child, according to police spokesperson Detective Katherine Collins.

The officer found the child and pulled him out of the pool. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the child as they rushed him to Broward General Medical Center, Collins said, but upon arrival at the hospital, the child was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Jevon Holly.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the grandmother was watching children at her residence when one of the children alerted her that a child was in the pool, according to Collins.

The grandmother could not swim, and so she called 911, Collins said.
