Along Highway 1 up the coast of California, there are many moments of striking beauty. Living on the central coast, I am constantly awed by how many of them occur so near to home. A quick drive after work, and I find myself finding new paths and new views of familar sights. Secluded coves and sheltered rocks where seals watch me with as much curiosity as I watch them and pelicans fly by like prehistoric pterodactyls. In this spot, only the houses dotting the distant hills across the bay remind me that I haven't wandered into a place no one has ever been, a moment no one has ever seen.
