This Boston event got very little press, but I came across some gorgeous photographs of a beautiful and haunting memorial ceremony set in one of Boston's historic cemeteries.

This breathtaking, Buddhist-inspired ceremony of remembrance honors loved ones who have died. Bring a picnic and friends and family of all ages. Decorate a paper lantern, light it with a candle, and set it afloat on Lake Hibiscus at sunset. A thousand points of light will float on the water as darkness falls, symbolizing the soul’s journey after death.

With live music by Master Tsuji’s Samurai Taiko Drummers, gospel by Ron Murphy and friends, dance by students from Showa Institute and Chu Ling Dance Academy.

seosmh says, "The Lantern Festival has been going on for about 9 years now, and people seem to be hearing about it largely through word of mouth. Each year seems to draw a larger crowd. It certainly draws its share of photographers." Hopefully we can do our bit to report on beautiful festivals such as this.
