Fossett Below the Lake Water?
A Nevada Civil Air Patrol C-130 found no sign of Fossett after combing the sprawling 600-square-mile search zone with a thermal imaging camera during a nighttime flight.
As we enter teh fourth day in search of Steve Fossett authorites will be searching a lake with sonar to 'rule it out' as a possible crash site.

Still no news on Fossett and his mishappen flight three days ago. Speculation is rising as to what may have happened to the record setting adventurer as time passes. One of the more curious theories is that he was shot down over a restricted US military location, possibly the famed AREA 51. CNN's Miles O'Brien, an expert of aviation and the space industry, was quoted as supporting this theory. See below for more:

gryphon, thanks for getting this story out so quickly. It will now show up on the home page for four hours. If new developments justify it, I'll renew this flag for another cycle.
You beat me to it by about one minute!
One small note--from what I've read, there's as yet no statement that his plane has crashed.
Here's the story from The Las Vegas Review Journal in Nevada.

Gryphon, I've removed my story. Do you have confirmation that his plane crashed? Latest I heard was that he didn't file a flight plan, so the search is going to be difficult.
Fossett is the first person to circumnavigate the world solo in a balloon. He also holds a glider record, climbs mountains, has run the Iditarod, and tackled many other challenges. He's a legend.
