Monday august 20

The 6th Paris Plages is over. Because of the bad weather the event
was'nt as succesfull as last year.  Only ten days of sunshine and
twenty days of rain. Pétanque (heavy metal ball game) and volley-ball
where very popular, swimming and sun-bathing not so much. On Europe 1 radio, Anne Hidalgo, Mayor Delanoé's
assistant said:" Paris Plages is part of Paris identity. It cost 2,4
millions euros, 1 million for the city, 1,4 for private partners. So
each parisian pays 0,50 euro which is very reasonable". Next year,
after the municipal elections, the winning team will decide whether to
go on or not. As several cities picked up the idea it's very probable
that there will be a seventh Paris Plages on the banks of the  Seine.

After cleaning up the road along the river, traffic will resume. Less poetry and more efficiency! C'est la rentrée.

It rains nearly every day on Paris Plages. The stalls  are not selling

many souvenirs. The bistrot and the ice-cream stand close earlier, most

of the concert are call off. A few optimists enjoy the lack of crowd

and the beautiful view on the Seine and the Conciergerie. The bank road

along the Seine is closed to cars during Paris Plages and taking a walk

there, whatever the weather, is a privilège.

Wenesday august 8

Today, the day I choose to go to Paris Plages, it rained. The
palm trees, the parasols and the golden sand were deserted. The
deck-chairs the amateurs are fighting for where sadly piled up in a
corner. In sunny time, the place is crowded as parisians and tourists
invade this ephemeral beach along the Seine.

Since 2000, the banks of the river Seine are converted in a three
kilometers beach from the Louvre to pont de Sully. There, you can do
free taï-chi, climbing, roller, calligraphy. You can also relax and
sunbath if you can find a place where to put your bath-towell.
At
the “port de la gare”, near the TGB library, in the shadow of ephemeral
trees, you can read free newspapers, borrow a book or learn to paint.
The floating Josephine Baker's swimming-pool is not far.
This year
you'll find a third site at “Bassin de la Villette”. From the Ledoux's
rotunda, at métro Stalingrad, to rue de Crimée you can practice kayak
and all sorts of free aquatic sports.

From 6pm to 22pm, between Pont Marie et Pont de Sully more than 25 groups are giving free concerts.

Palagret, I like this story. I think its a great idea to have a beach in a capital city. Too bad the weather is not on your side.
