A South Florida pharmacy chain called Publix has announced that it will make seven common prescription antibiotics available for free. Publix joins Wal-Mart, Kmart and other drug retailers that already offer discounted drug programs.
The prescription antibiotics available under the program are amoxicillin, cephalexin, penicillin VK, erythromycin, ampicillin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, and ciprofoxacin.

Wow! Excellent PR move on their part. My parents live a block away from a Publix and can't say enough nice things about the company...wonder if the other big chains will follow suit?
This is kind of a trend in US society - our government's not the most competent in the world, but every now and then Big Business pitches in and helps bail it out a bit.

Well, that sounds good, but the side effect is that they are also contributing to more drug resistant microbes, which leads to the "need" for more expensive and harmful antibiotics.
