Friends raise cash in memory of Ryan
FAMILY and friends of a teenage naval rating who died last year have raised more than £1,100 for the Royal Navy Benevolent Trust.
Teenage naval rating Ryan Kemp died in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, September 7, and was honoured with a six-gun military salute at his funeral. The 18-year-old was driving his Triumph Daytona motorbike near Winchester in Hampshire when it collided with the back of a lorry in a lay-by. In the aftermath of the tragedy Mr Kemp's family vowed to give something back to the Royal Navy Benevolent Trust, who they said had been tremendously supportive.
On Friday, friends and family gathered at The White Hart pub in Flore to donate the money to officers from the trust, who travelled from Portsmouth.
Mr Kemp's grandfather, Bill, said the family had now pledged to raise £50,000 this year for the trust.[/q]
