It was the Friday night after my first week in a new high school and already I was a dateless loser.
Yikes! That's some self-effacement. Ms. Benedetti is describing her experience with a new video game called
Brooktown High, in which you enter a virtualized high school and try make your way through the treacherous socio-political waters.
Personally, I'd rather not do it all over again, as once was enough. One time, though, I did teach an English honors class for a day (the topic was
Macbeth; apologies to any actors I may have accidentally
cursed), and due to my informal dress and somewhat boyish looks (I was 24 at the time) I was assessed by the kids in the hall as some sort of new student, and, as the bell rang, several teachers tried to send me to class.
And, no, I didn't hit on any high-school girls. That would have been creepy. Which is sort of the point of the game mentioned in the article above: the girls (and guys) are teens, but now you're a teen, too... knowing then what you know now!
