Ever wonder why consumer societies in other countries like Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, and etc. are able to use their cellphone for more than … well, email?

A lot of people are talking about this lately, both here on NP and elsewhere. North American service providers are indeed reticent to provide real-world functionality in their plans, but there is also a lack of true Wi-Fi phones that can access the web without relying on the mobile network itself...
I'm seeing how many times I can use this comment on different but salient articles! Hey, it's an interesting topic.

It is a good and astute comment and it is true.
All phones should come with two radios so the one could use the option that is best for the circumstance.
After all, most all "enterprise mobility" platforms begin with WiFi and then add the cell/mobile network option as almost an afterthought.
So how many articles have you been able to place this comment on? Any in reference to the weather? :-)

all phones should be unlocked
and soon all phones will do all protocols like GSM, CDMA, WiFi
where soon = 5-15 years!
