SIOUX FALLS (AP) — The condition of Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., remains unchanged as he recovers from brain surgery in a Washington, D.C. hospital. He remained in critical but stable condition Friday, said his spokeswoman, Julianne Fisher.
It’s likely he will spend Christmas and his 60th birthday on Thursday in the intensive care unit at George Washington University Hospital.
One of his doctors said earlier in the week that Johnson was being sedated so he can rest and recover from bleeding in his brain and that it would continue through the holidays.
He was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation, a condition that causes arteries and veins to grow abnormally large and sometimes burst.
He suffered bleeding in his brain Dec. 13 and underwent emergency surgery that night.
