One of the most interesting parts of President George Bush's speech last night was his cryptic remarks, and an implicit threat, directed at Iran and Syria.

"Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops," Mr
Bush said. "We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will
interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out
and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to
our enemies in Iraq."

Now, a bit of action agains Iran. Is Bush attempting to open another front?

U.S. troops raided an Iranian consulate in northern Iraq late Wednesday night and detained several people, Iran's main news agency reported today, prompting protests from Tehran just hours after President Bush pledged to crack down on the Islamic Republic's role in Iraqi violence.

Iran released news of the raid through its Islamic Republic News Agency in a dispatch that was broadly critical of Bush's plan to deploy about 21,500 more troops to Iraq.

Your headline, "Goading Iran into an attack" is misleading, and ignores the fact that Iran has been in the fight in Iraq through its proxy army, mfg IED', and funding Mookie's buildup.

More accurate, I think, to say that Iran has goaded Bush into an attack.
