I was jogging on the beach yesterday afternoon and noticed that the conditions were a lot better for swimming compared with the previous couple of days.

I do remember a few days back seeing police talking to some Life Guards at Narrowneck beach, filing out some paper work - looked a bit funny. I read later that some young guy had just drowned

Please take care when swimming and listen to the Life Guards or Life Savers.

Authorities say surf conditions should steadily improve on the Gold Coast over the next few days.

Two men died and dozens of people have been rescued from treacherous surf since Friday.

Surf Life Saving Queensland's Stuart Hogben has urged swimmers to stay within the flags and not venture out of their depth.

"We are seeing a decrease in the swells, and depending on how the sand settles down after being stirred up with this large swell, that will depend on what the conditions do, but obviously they will improve a little bit with this decrease in swells," he said.

"But people have to remember that just because the swell drops doesn't mean the ocean then becomes safe."
