The Gold Coast and far north Queensland will star in a multi-million dollar television series that will screen later this year.

Many of the 13 episodes of Sea Patrol were filmed in the sunshine state.

Producer Hal McElroy says the Gold Coast has proved an ideal base.

"We needed to build a lot of sets for special effects works and a lot of sets for the interior of the boat, the below decks, to do a lot of dialogue scenes and we have discovered that the best set designers are based here in Queensland on the Gold Coast," he said.

The Pacific Film and Television Corporation offered the producers an incentive and investment package worth about $750,000 to make the series in Queensland.

The corporation's chief executive officer Robin James says there are other similar projects planned for the Gold Coast.

"I think Sea Patrol is a perfect project for Queensland," he said.

"It's perfect for the Gold Coast and north Queensland, I have every expectation that it will be back here.

"There will be another major movie starting production on the Gold Coast very shortly, in fact it is in pre-production as we speak."
