I used to shoot a pretty good game before I tore a hamstring, but I know that this course would have torn my ego to shreds.  The blogger at Golf Digest seems to have a cool analytical view of the course technicals. What do you think?

Why is the course playing so tough? After several years of spotty weather dictating the course setup, the longer Augusta National may now by playing as the Masters intended: hard and fast.

But also look where the Masters is putting the pins: On a half-dozen holes, the flagsticks are five paces or less from the fringe, tucked in side and corner pockets. Check out the pin placements today on:

15th hole: Four paces from left side

16th hole: Three paces from the back left

17th hole: Three paces from left side

And you'll see how tough it is to hit a high left-to-right cut shot that stops fast to a flag that's three steps from disaster.
