Top Republican dumps on Alberto Gonzales

Republican Senator Lindsay Graham just told Wolf Blitzer on CNN that US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is "badly damaged" but if President George Bush keeps him on, "I'll continue to work with him." But it was clear that Graham, one of the most vociferous supporter of the Bush administration, has essentially told Bush to dump Gonzales.

Now maybe all of you know about US President George Bush's record for drunken driving, but I didn't. And maybe you also know that US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales helped Bush avoid public scrutiny over the episode.
I didn't. But the details are now posted on The Washington Post.
Gonzales told senators earlier this year that allegations that he had been untruthful "have been personally very painful to me." But Gonzales's critics on and off Capitol Hill say he has had trouble with the truth for more than a decade, pointing to a controversy over Gonzales's account of why Bush was excused from jury duty in 1996 while serving as the governor of Texas.
Here's the episode, which the WP seemed to bury in the story:
Questions about Gonzales's willingness to shade the truth on Bush's behalf came to prominence in the 1996 episode in which Bush was excused from Texas jury duty in a drunken-driving case. Bush was then the state's governor, and Gonzales was his general counsel. If Bush had served, he probably would have had to disclose his own drunken-driving conviction in Maine two decades earlier.

Hey you are the first to spot the change! Hadn't you noticed all the grizzled chin whiskers?

Yeah, ANG, drinking and driving is a problem in the Bush household. Known as the persistent party-boy during his college years, rumour has it, (and I underline the word rumor) that cocaine lead him to rehab. His wife reportedly accidentally killed her boyfriend while intoxicated and his daughters have issues with the bottle. Not that this is something that should be weighed against them, but it's very difficult to do since they refuse to extend that sort of "conservative compassion" to others outside of their "class".
On Gonzogate, it seems this pair go way back in the cover-up game. And still I ask, how much more will it take?
By the way, good one.

Are you kidding me? You are worried about a Gov. being excused from jury duty 11 years ago? A sitting Governor has much better things to do than sit in a jury box for days on end. If you were awake during the '04 election the DUI record was reported mysteriously on the eve of the election. Gonzales didn't hide anything he merely excused Bush. Please use your energy to 'uncover' more relevant stories than 'hiding' a DUI record.

Mark, as this onion is peeled, there seem to be no end to the layers! It will be decades before the American people will even come close to knowing all that has been withheld, 'tweaked' or which issues we were down right lied to for the sake of expediency!
