Diet Coke with minerals? Pepsi with fortified Calcium?  In an attempt to re-vamp the image of soft drinks, marketing giants for both Coca-Cola and Pepsi Co. are branding their pops with minerals and calcium, calling these drinks "sparkling beverages." The industry has taken a huge hit in the last few years with more people reaching for water, natural juices and drinks, as alternative for soda drinks.

While the soda business remains a $68 billion industry in the United States, consumers are increasingly reaching for bottled water, sparkling juices and green tea drinks. In 2005, the amount of soda sold in this country dropped for the first time in recent history. Even the diet soda business has slowed.
