Grilling poll uncovers pork-barrel politics

If you've been to a barbecue lately where your host served pork, chances are that host is a Liberal.

A recent Angus Reid poll on Canadian barbecuing habits inadvertently roasted and toasted all three of Canada's leading political parties. Among the survey findings was that Liberals prefer pork more than do Conservative and New Democrat voters.

On learning this, B.C. Liberal MP Hedy Fry laughed and then went into "stand and defend" mode.

"A barbecue may be the only time a Liberal gets to eat pork," sniffed Fry.

B.C. New Democrat MLA Rob Fleming also laughed at the Liberal-pork link, saying, "That's completely understandable after the Adscam scandal."

But Elizabeth May, national leader for the Green party, wouldn't touch the survey result.

"That's too easy. It's like shooting fish in a barrel," said May, who was a little burned that not enough Greens showed up in the polling sample for their barbecue preferences to rank in the survey results.
