When I heard about the 2010 American Cancer Society Relay For Life from my very good friend Colleen, herself a Cancer Survivor, I could not resist the temptation to come and do a photo shoot. What I saw blew me away.
The event I attended was held in Saratoga Springs, NY on Friday 4th June and started at 6pm. It was, I was told, to continue until 7am the next morning. I saw so many people in purple shirts to show they have survived cancer and hundreds more in white showing their support to the cause of fighting this horrid disease.
As I said, I was completely blown away by the amount of support from, not only, friends and family of Cancer Survivors and, sadly, those that have lost their lives, but also from local businesses too.
It made me realise how lucky I am to be in the position of health that I am in, but also to admire the determination. motivation and commitment everyone has in making sure that a cure is found and this disease is wiped clean from our planet for good.
Of course, I managed to stay around till just after 11pm that evening taking some beautiful photographs of everyday people participating in The Relay. Some danced, some ran, others just walked. However, I am ashamed to admit that by then I was exhausted. It made me see even more how exhaustion does not come into the equation when fighting this deadly disease; and how strong in mind, body and soul these people are that are determined to fight to the bitter end to wipe out Cancer.
Please visit The American Cancer Society home page and give something, even if it is just some of your time, to help find a Cure and Hope we can stop this deadly disease.
