82 000 Munchkins Teethers Recalled in Canada
82 000 Munchikins Brands teethers have been recalled in Canada due to bacterial contamination of the gel inside them. Only one lot tested showed the bacterial contamination of the teethers, but Munchkin, Inc. is recalling all the teethers.
This large recall of teethers is in addition to the nearly 250 000 teethers and soothers for babies recently recalled in Canada.
Full Description:
This recall involves the Fun IceĀ® Chewy Teether by Munchkin. The teether is filled with gel and is available in either the shape of a hand, foot, or an animal. The product is intended for infants between 0 and 24 months.
The recalled teethers can be identified by UPC 735282740015 and item #74001. The UPC and item number can be found on the back of the product packaging.
Hazard:
The lot tested by Health Canada showed contamination by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. This little organism can cause severe nausea and other gastrointestinal symptoms if the teether is punctured and the gel is ingested. In those babies with compromised immune systems, the vulnerability to the bacterium is increased.
Fix: Take the teether away from your child immediately.
Number sold in Canada: 82 000 For those of you who live in the US you may which to check with the FDA or Munchkin Inc. to see if the recall applies to Munchkins sold there. The company importing the contaminated teethers is situated in North Hill, California.
