A VICTORIAN nursing home could face criminal charges after some elderly residents were found to weigh as little as 25kg or less.

The Federal Government has threatened to close Kirralee Residential Aged Care Facility in Ballarat after an investigation found the home failed to meet up to 33 of 44 minimum standards.

A spot-check by the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency on July 18 flagged five areas of serious risk including nutrition, hydration, skin care and pain management.
