Andrea Mitchell Breast Cancer: 'I'm 1 in 8 Women' (Video)
Andrea Mitchell Announces Breast Cancer Diagnosis on TV
NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell told her viewers that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Andrea Mitchell made the announcement at the end of September 7's edition of Andrea Mitchell Presents, saying, " I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week, but instead discovered that I am now among the one in eight women in this country–incredibly, one in eight–who have had breast cancer.
"Mine was discovered during my annual screening just a short time ago. Luckily for me I am one of the fortunate ones. We discovered it in the earliest stage. It had not spread, and I’m already back at work with a terrific prognosis.”
One in eight, or 12.5%: if you were told that those were your odds of winning the lottery, you know you'd buy a ticket.
Aside from monthly self-exams, adult women should get tested by a doctor once a year.
