A nationwide anti-abortion group launched an effort in Florida Friday to outlaw all abortions and certain types of birth control, including oral contraceptives and the morning-after pill. The religion-infused movement, called "Personhood Florida," would define conception in Florida's constitution at the "biological beginnings," supporters said -- when the sperm meets the egg.
This stance confirms what many pro-choicers/ pro-abortioners have thought for years. Many of those who oppose abortion actually (and perhaps really) oppose the sex. This blogger summed it up well, in my opinion:
It's never really about abortion, it's about sex - and punishing the people who think they can act like sluts and get away with it instead of feeling God's wrath!
Yes! Women who have sex (may the Gods forbid!) because they want to and because they enjoy it and because they have made that decision for their body should be punished for that choice. In effect, therefore, this isn't only an attempt to criminalise abortion or contraception, but also a measure to demonise the women who choose to avail of them.
On an even more sinister note, the group thinks that abortions shouldn't be allowed even in cases of rape or incest.
The amendment seeks to outlaw all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. Also criminalized: the morning-after pill and oral contraceptives taken by women, known as the pill.
Pretty draconian stuff.

Dumbest thing I've heard of. Would only lead to problems. It is quite obvious preaching abstinence does not work. Such a bill passing would lead to an increase in abortions more likely than not.
Ironic that this bill is only detrimental to women. What about the people who get them pregnant? The same idiots who will probably abandon their family either physically or mentally at some point.

In answer to your second question - it is my opinion that this group is not interested in punishing men, only the 'filthy' women who want sex without procreation.

Of course. Their own action upholds stereotypes against the religious community. Zealots are bad not matter what end of the spectrum they fall on. It is fringe action that often leads to conclusions when the whole remains silent. This bill is disgusting and a travesty. Hopefully it will never come close to being passed.

Desperate women will find an abortionist. When I was young girls died from infections or were rendered sterile from black market abortions. If all else failed, a straightened out wire coat hanger, inserted could cause a massive hemorrage that if you lived through, you would probably be sterile. There's a reason why Henry Morgantaler was finally recognized as a hero. Of course it's a move to control women's sexuality.

Birth control is vital ! Abstinance is desirable but easier said than done. These people are stupid if they think this move will cause anything other than an upsurge in abortion. Perhaps they want the numbers to go so high that there is an outright ban ? In my opinion abortions should be banned beyond 6 weeks as soon as is practically possible. 6 weeks is when the soul is breathed into the body. Sperm dont have souls, lol. If they do every man on the planet is going to hell for Genocide ! Would God design something so illogical ? I think not

your presumption, while it might be true for some, is overall false in my opinion. i am against abortion and i like sex. i think the morning after pill is the very worst kind of abortion because you never actually acknowledge that you killed something. It's not a matter of punishment to me, its a matter of giving everyone a chance and respecting life.
