What is a Smile Makeover?
The process in which your smile is enhanced from its current state to a more vibrant one using Cosmetic Dentistry
What is Cometic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is the art of dentistry that focuses on the appearance of your smile allowing for any modifications that may be required to achieve the “perfect” smile. Cosmetic Dentistry covers such things as: Tooth Whitening, bonding, veneers, dental implants, orthodontics (using Invisalign) and crowns.
We all know that not everyone enjoys a visit to the dentist, but in today’s society with the use of modern technology all your dentistry fears can be eliminated. Your smile is one of your most important facial features. A bright white smile presents a healthy outlook on life. Do you have a “not so perfect smile” are looking at repairing it, but are not sure of what's involved.
The following are some of the treatments provided today by Dentists with an excerpt on how they are performed.
Tooth Whitening brightens the teeth that have been discoloured over time. By using a hydrogen peroxide gel that’s applied to the teeth it triggers a reaction. A blue-spectrum light is used to heat the gel. This light can also be used to single out those teeth that may need a bit more attention. How it works: the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and a radical. The radical combines with the stain molecules on the surface of the tooth weakening the stain allowing oxygen to reach the tooth enamel. This makes the oxygen bleach the tooth.
Bonding is an alternative to amalgam (metal fillings). The dentist will clean, prepare the teeth and your gaps, then using a resin can repair the tooth enamel.
Crowns are a tooth like covering that is placed over an existing tooth to enhance its condition and strength and give it a more natural look.
Veneers use porcelain that is bonded to the front surface of the tooth to repair chipped, discoloured or misshaped teeth. These are especially great for your front teeth.
Dental Implants are an artificial tooth root submerged into the jaw bone to recover the natural function of your teeth. Made from Titanium, they take the on the role of an anchor within the mouth, holding the tooth in position.
Orthodontic Invisalign is the new art of using invisible braces to straighten teeth. The process uses a series of clear removable aligners. This process decreases the use of metal brackets, wires, mouth ulcers, irritation and trips to have your braces tightened.
Crowns have in the past been referred to as “caps”. Crowns are a tooth like covering that is placed over an existing tooth. They are used to repair teeth that are in poor condition having either being cracked, broken, decayed or dead.
