A sharp increase in people infected with swine flu in Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines could tip the H1N1 virus into epidemic status, said the World Health Organisation on Wednesday.
Over 1,200 people have contracted the virus in Australia, four times the amount last week. While only 100 people were affected in the Philippines and 11 on Tuesday, the strain is new and could spread easily. New Zealand authorities worry it could spread to half the population in its present form.
For that to happen, officials would have to verify that the disease had become established outside North America, where the crisis began."Once I get indisputable evidence, I will make the announcement," said WHO director general, Margaret Chan.

Flue, its just damn flue and I assure you more than 100 people in the Philippines have been infected by HINI flue virus. Hardly any one here can afford to go to the doctors especial with a few sniffles and a mild fever.
Its getting over hyped, when flue is passed on by pigs or birds its only the first hosts that gets the virus at full strength and they pass on a much, much more weaker strain. The Mexican flue is really played out its pointless to trace its spread by travelers and its no worst than the normal human strains. Yet we see people flapping and news being hyped. Oh for common sense to prevail. If Philippine flue travels it will be just the same as Mexican Flue, break out the aspirins and use loads of vick. lol
WHO yep who are they to start panic, one day when the dam really breaks we will think they are just crying wolf. They really have to investigate thoroughly before creating hype. And the news media are such a dam pain when they milk a story and add fear to sell their news.

The scary thing is that a pandemic flu affects the young and healthy more than others. This is due to an immune system response over-reaction.
